The Darkroom
Where the magic happens.
The darkroom is the heart of Studio8 Social and this where we develop the B&W films and prepare our analog prints.
You can either develop your own films or we can do it for you. We have range of chemicals available most of the time and we can help you with the choice best for your needs.
We have the capacity to develop larger quantities roll film as well as 4x5” deep tank development upon request.
Please note, if you wish to rent the darkroom for yourself we would need you to demonstrate sufficient experience in operating a darkroom, health and safety included. If you feel you do not possess this we can offer a short half day introductory training against a small fee which includes guiding you individually through your first patches of film/prints.
Contact us to discuss what our darkroom can do for you.
Film Development
We develop all B&W film manually with a choice of developers available. Our Heiland drying cabinet guarantees a quick turnaround.
We have deep tanks for 4”x5” large format negatives enabling for larger quantities to be developed simultaneously.
Printing
Our enlarger can produce prints up to 40cm x 50cm from any negative up to 4”x 5” either on resin coated or fibre based paper.
Mounting
We have the facilities to mount prints and cut passe-partouts up to a ca. 70cm size length by using highest quality 1.5mm archival quality mounting boards.
Framing
We use high quality third party frames that we order from Germany. Sounds expensive but its actually not.
Workshops
We host basic B&W darkroom workshops throughout the year, depending on demand (see Workshops section).
Alternative Techniques
We are always keen in learning new techniques and try them out as often as we have sufficient interest - provided our darkroom can handle it!
